Impeached speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh, says he remains in charge of the house.

He was later replaced with Hon. Kabiru Adjoto (Akoko-Edo I).

Okonoboh and his deputy, who were said to have been impeached by 19 members, were accused of abuse of office and high handedness.

But Okonoboh, in a press conference, said those involved in his impeachment have been suspended indefinitely for peace to reign in the state.

“This type of thing should not happen at this time that we need peace in Edo state for development,” he said.

“Because of what happened now, 11 of them started talking rubbish in the hall.”

However, the new speaker, Hon. Adjoto. accused Okonoboh of adjourning sittings and awarding contracts without following due process despite several warnings.

He said, “We are 24 elected members. But we discovered that the wife turned herself to the 25th member to the extent that anything we discuss at the executive session, the wife will hear and start calling our wives to tell that ‘this is what was discussed today. Tell your husband that, he should not do this.

“The wife uses his vehicle and convoy as if she is Mr. Speaker at random, that is desecration of the parliament.

“Mr Speaker is not supposed to be a contractor, at all. But we discovered that he awards contrcts without following due process to himself here. We’ve have cautioned him severally but he refused to listen.”
