Liverpool have completed the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma for a fee of about £36.9 million.

The Egypt international will wear the no. 11 shirt at Anfield next season.

A deal was finally completed on Thursday, following lengthy negotiations with Roma and the 25-year-old passing a medical.

Salah scored 29 goals in 65 appearances for Roma in the Serie A last season and will add depth to Liverpool’s already formidable attack this summer, and will be tested with the challenge of Champions League football.

“Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential – this is a really exciting signing for us. He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said.

“His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad. His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area.”

Salah can effectively operate as a focal point or second striker too if required having done so for Roma.

Dropping him into the front three would see Philippe Coutinho move into midfield, where he can have greater influence on a game and inject creativity especially against low blocks.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Salah said: “I’m very excited to be here. I’m very happy. I will give 100% and give everything for the club. I really want to win something for this club.

“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100% to win something. Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”

The winger becomes the second for Liverpool this summer, following the arrival of England’s Under-20 World Cup winner Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.
