5 Member Committee Inaugurated To Investigate Fire Disaster In Ghana.

A five-member committee to investigate the June 3 Fire Disaster which occurred at the Goil Filling Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, was inaugurated in Accra on Tuesday.

The Committee which is to submit its report on Tuesday, June 30, has Mr Justice Isaac Delali Duose, a retired Appeal Court Judge as its Chairman.

The other committee members are Colonel Mohammed Mustapha, Director at the Ghana Armed Forces, Deputy Chief Fire Officer William J Mensah (Director of Operations), Chief Superintendent Raymond Simpi, Director of Crime Scene of the Ghana Police Service, with Mr Wise Ametepe, a hydrologist consultant and Chairman of the Hydromet Committee, as Advisor.

The Committee is to investigate the possible causes of the fire disaster, assess the cost of damage, and to make recommendations as to how the nation can prevent the recurrence of such a disaster.

Mr Mark Owen Woyongo, Minister of the Interior, who inaugurated the Committee, said this sad event had caused the nation, families, victims and their relatives, difficult losses to deal with.

He, therefore, stressed the need for Ghanaians not to apportion blame, but to learn valuable lessons, and put durable structures in place to ensure that we did not encounter a national mishap of such monstrous proportions.

Mr Woyongo appealed to Ghanaians to volunteer information and useful suggestions to enable the Committee come out with meaningful recommendations towards this national exercise.

He thanked the members for accepting to serve on the committee, adding, ‘Ghana has confidence that you will do your best to help the nation put this sorrowful mishap behind us and move on with our lives.’

The Minister urged the Media to spread the message as their patriotic duty, to enable majority of the citizenry come out to assist the Committee with valuable pieces of information, in order to make its work a success.

Mr Justice Duose, Chairman of the Committee, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in members, and assured Ghanaians that it would live up to expectation.
