Three members of the Anambra Vigilante Group, AVG, were killed at Igboukwu in the state’s Aguata local government area by suspected assailants.

A senior official of the organization known as Shaba and two of his assistants were among those killed.

The gunmen opened fire on them when they were in a bar at the well-known Nkwo Market in Igboukwu, a source said, adding that the attackers drove to the bar, got out, and started shooting at the orderlies there before shooting the officer inside. They supposedly passed away right away.

Although there were rumours that Shaba, the senior vigilante officer, was a part of the feared Ebubeagu security organization that has been harassing various communities in the South-East, mainly in Imo and Ebonyi states, the circumstances surrounding the incident were still unclear.

Other reports gotten by Okay.ng, however, explains that the murder was committed by members of a kidnapping ring whose leader had recently been apprehended by Shaba’s team.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police’s PPRO, who confirmed the event, said a planned effort had been put up to capture the attackers and that monitoring had been stepped up in the neighborhood.

“A deliberate operation to capture the assailants is currently under way. Additionally, patrols have been stepped up in Aguata and the area around it. Any new information will be communicated, he added.
