Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur Davis has died. She was just 69 years old.

The Marin Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible cardiac arrest at her home in Sausalto, California at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday night. She was transferred to a local hospital, where she died around 10:28 p.m.

Tupac died on September 7, 1996 almost 20 years ago.

Afeni was the sole beneficiary of Tupac’s Estate which reportedly paid her $900,000 per month.

She was born Alice Faye Williams but changed her name when she moved to New York and joined the Black Panther movement in 1969 to Afeni Shakur. A year after Tupac’s death, Afeni founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation which provides performing art programs for the youth.
