Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar recently led a delegation of prominent politicians, including former governors Nasir el-Rufai and Aminu Tambuwal, on a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna, okay.ng reports.

Atiku clarified that the visit was primarily for Sallah celebrations and not for coalition talks aimed at forming a stronger opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. Despite this, the visit has sparked political speculation due to ongoing discussions about forming a united opposition front to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

El-Rufai also emphasized that the visit was not political, focusing on unity and brotherhood.

The visit of Atiku Abubakar to former President Muhammadu Buhari carries significant implications for the 2027 elections, which includes the following:

  1. Potential Realignment of Opposition Forces: Atiku’s engagement with influential figures, including Buhari, signals efforts to build alliances that could strengthen opposition against the ruling APC. Such alliances may reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027.
  2. Strategic Positioning: While labeled as a courtesy visit, Atiku’s interactions with key stakeholders indicate early politicking and consultations aimed at consolidating support for his potential candidacy or broader opposition strategies.
  3. Impact on APC’s Strategy: The ruling APC has downplayed the visit, but it underscores the need for the party to remain vigilant in maintaining its dominance amid emerging coalitions.

These developments highlight the intensifying groundwork for Nigeria’s next presidential election.
