The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a total of 379,997 candidates from Lagos and five South-East states will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following what it described as a “sabotage” of the testing process.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, took full responsibility for the irregularities and said fresh dates will be communicated directly to the affected candidates via text messages starting Thursday.
“The affected candidates will start getting text messages for reschedule starting from tomorrow,” Oloyede said. “I apologise, I take full responsibility.”
The announcement follows days of criticism over the 2025 UTME performance. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the examination, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks, raising widespread concern about the quality of education and fairness of the examination.
