2 Soldiers Killed, 7 Injured in Boko Haram Attack

Two Soldiers lost their lives, as seven others got injured on Tuesday evening, in the course of repelling a Boko Haram terrorist attack on their military camp in northern Borno state.

A statement confirming the attack issued by the spokesman of the Army Col. Sani Usman in the early hours of Wednesday said, the two soldiers were killed last night due to poor visibility, when troops of 119 Task Force Battalion stationed in Kangarwa in Kukawa Local government in northern Borno State were repelling an attack by Boko Haram terrorists that extended into the night.

Kangarwa is known to be one of the strongholds of Boko Haram, after Sambisa forest. hitherto a no go area for any soldier, but the military recently took over the location, inflicting a deep psychological blow to the confidence of the insurgents.

According to analysts, the insurgents will continue to remobilize with the aim of recapturing that location, which is a strategic battleground, even as Sambisa remains their fortified sanctuary.

The statement explains that “the attack which started at about 6.30pm, was successfully repelled after about 3 hours of exchange of heavy gunfire that inflicted tremendous casualty on the terrorists.

“Unfortunately, 2 of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price, while 7 were wounded in action. Due to poor visibility, the number of terrorists killed could not be ascertained for now.

“The bodies of the gallant soldiers and those wounded in action are being evacuated while the unit is carrying out mop up operation.”

Usman said the support of the Chadian Air Force fighter jets contributed immensely to the effort to successfully repel the attack.
