Yesterday, pop star Wizkid was publicly criticized by Humble Entertainment, a show promoting agency in London, for allegedly collecting money and failing to perform at a concert he had been booked for in the UK.

Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are, had however denied the allegations, saying the supposed performance had never been discussed with him or the management.

Now, it has been revealed that a 19-year-old girl has been posing as the Star Boy on social media, swindling many people including students of the University of Lagos. According to reports, the young girl, whose name has been withheld, was arrested by the police yesterday. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni revealed how she recently duped two people living overseas.

Owoseni stated that the suspect, who is an undergraduate of an undisclosed university in the country, defrauded one of the victims of $49,000 while the other victim was duped of $12,000. The girl’s cover was blown after Wizkid complained to the police commissioner that someone had been impersonating him and collecting money for shows.

CP Owoseni revealed that after a thorough investigation, the suspect was arrested.

He released a statement yesterday, saying “A lady was arrested for posing as Wizkid and duping two people outside Nigeria. Members of the public should be very careful of sending money to people they meet online.

The lady collected money from people in the United States and they thought they were paying money to Wizkid to come and perform. They did not know they were dealing with fraudsters. Nigerians should warn friends and relatives overseas to be careful in sending money to anyone, especially someone they did not know or have not seen .”

The young lady is currently in police custody.
