Reports coming out of England suggest that legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be making a return to the club should current manager Louis Van Gaal be relieved of his duties.
The Red Devils travel to eternal rivals Liverpool on Sunday and many believe a defeat at Anfield would cost the under-fire Dutchman his job with assistant manager Ryan Giggs replacing him, and Fergie taking a hands-on role behind the scenes.
Since the ill-fated appointment of former manager David Moyes, Ferguson, 74, has been excluded from major decisions at the club, although he retains the respect and support of United’s American owners, the Glazers.
Should Giggs be elevated to the coach’s job as was in the case after Moyes got the boot, he would work closely with his mentor for the duration of his appointment.
Fergie, who has since ruled out the possibility of a return to the dugout, is a £2million-a-year senior ambassador for the club, and has been a regular in the stands since his retirement in 2013.
