Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai on Wednesday visited a Christian man attacked by Muslim youths in Kakuri area of the state for not fasting.
41-year-old Francis Emmanuel, a carpenter, who was attacked with machete at Sokoto Road, Kakuri, on Tuesday, was rushed to the St. Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kakuri for medical treatment.
Emmanuel who was badly injured during the incident, sustained deep cuts on various parts of his body.
El-Rufai today led a team of senior government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Architect Barnabas Yusuf Bala, to visit Francis.
The governor comforted the victim and promised that the government will not allow any criminal to hide under any religious guise or to use religion as justification for violating the right of any citizen.
“We have asked the police to arrest the criminals, and we will ensure they are prosecuted. There is no compulsion in religion,” he said.
