In an exclusive interview with Hip TV, Afrobeats sensation Asake, widely recognized for his hit track “Mr Money,” shared the captivating tale of his ascent to YBNL, the esteemed record label founded by Nigerian rap icon Olamide.
Asake unveiled the arduous path he traversed, recounting how he persistently implored Olamide, affectionately known as “Baddo,” for a staggering two years, yearning for a chance to be part of the YBNL family.
The pivotal moment arrived when Olamide extended an invitation to Asake, summoning him to his abode. Reflecting on that fateful encounter, Asake reminisced, “He asked me if I wanted to join YBNL, and honestly, it blew my mind. It’s surreal when someone you admire offers such an opportunity.”
Despite Olamide’s advice to seek legal counsel and comprehend the intricacies of the contract, Asake’s overwhelming eagerness propelled him to swiftly affix his signature to the deal he had long yearned for. “I didn’t hesitate,” Asake admitted. “I told him, ‘Sign me now, Baba. No need for lawyers.’ The love I had for the YBNL family made the decision easy, even without a second thought.”
Finally, in February 2022, YBNL Nation officially welcomed Asake into their fold. The same month saw the release of his debut extended play, “Ololade,” featuring the chart-topping track “Omo Ope,” a collaboration with Olamide that rapidly propelled Asake to the forefront of the music scene.
