Reports from Edo state indicate that voting has occurred in the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), organised by the Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the party, for the forthcoming governorship poll in Edo State.
Although two aspirants, Johnson Agbonayima and Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, were cleared by the faction to contest the primary election, Agbonayima, who represents Egor and Ikpoba-Okha constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, prior to voting, announced his decision to step down for Iduoriyekemwen.
With 677 accredited delegates, voting commenced at about 4:30pm.
Although, the police had earlier cordoned off the entrance to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, scheduled for the primaries, the group still managed to hold the primary at the Tennis Court area.
The Ahmed Markafi-led PDP faction held its primary on June 20 at the same venue which produced Osagie Ize-Iyamu as its candidate.
Ize-Iyamu defeated Solomon Edebiri and Iduoriyekemwen, who later joined the Modu Sheriff faction after he faulted the process of the primary.
