Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, Minister of Women’s Affairs, has strongly criticized a young lady, believed to be a social media content creator, for using her mentally unstable mother to gain personal and social media views, Okay.ng reports.
In a statement released on social media on Sunday, Kennedy-Ohaneye condemned the video, describing it as “unacceptable and potentially harmful.”
The minister emphasized that the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, particularly those struggling with mental health issues, is highly condemnable and assured that appropriate actions would be taken.
The viral video, which has sparked widespread outrage, shows the unidentified young woman filming and conversing with her mother, who appears unwell and neglected.
The content creator’s actions have been widely criticized for their insensitivity and potential harm to her mother’s dignity.
“We condemn the disturbing video report of a woman’s mental illness being exploited by her daughter for personal gain and social media content. This is unacceptable, potentially harmful, and troubling,” the minister stated.
Kennedy-Ohaneye further highlighted the need for compassion and support for individuals facing mental health challenges, rather than ridicule or exploitation.
She called on the public to respect the dignity and humanity of those suffering from mental health issues.
The Minister of Women’s Affairs also urged anyone with information about the mother’s identity and condition to come forward, promising a reward for prompt assistance in locating and providing care for her.
“Appropriate actions must be taken to address this situation. We call on everyone to respect the dignity and humanity of those facing mental health issues and report similar instances immediately. Let’s work together to prevent exploitation and support those who need it most,” Kennedy-Ohaneye concluded.
