The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA) has expressed concerns regarding Air Peace’s adherence to certain safety regulations during their operations in the UK. This was revealed following a ramp inspection conducted by UKCAA.
According to Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the UKCAA’s concerns were highlighted in a report titled ‘Ramp Inspection,’ dated April 7.
The inspection uncovered that Air Peace was utilizing electronic flight bag (EFB) functions without the necessary operational approval.
The UKCAA’s report indicated that the use of EFBs, which are crucial for the safe operation of aircraft, was not compliant with regulations.
Specifically, the UKCAA noted the absence of a mounting device for the EFB, as well as a lack of charging points or a backup battery. The flight captain reportedly admitted to using the EFB for navigational purposes without the requisite approval.
Achimugu clarified that while the UKCAA had communicated these findings to the NCAA, the issues identified do not warrant a ban on Air Peace operations.
He emphasized that the concerns fall under a less severe category, Level 2, which does not necessitate immediate drastic action such as grounding the airline.
“There was a ramp inspection where issues were raised at Level 2 (definitely not Level 1),” Achimugu explained.
“The NCAA has been communicated and we have written to the airline for their comments. Investigations are ongoing. Well, it’s a category less serious than Level 1, it does not call for a ban of the airline as being suggested by some of your colleagues.”
Okay.ng recalls that Air Peace commenced its Lagos-London flight services on March 30, 2024.
