A brutal attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on a farming community in Kerawa, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, has resulted in the tragic loss of four lives. The incident occurred on Thursday between 12 and 1 pm while the victims were working on their farms.
This latest attack comes nearly two months after a series of explosions killed over 30 people in Gwoza town. The Counsellor of Jimini ward, Bukar Aji, and Chairman of Kerawa Community Association, Yakubu Ali, confirmed the incident.
Kerawa town, located on the border with Cameroon at the Mandara mountains, is a known hideout for terrorists. The Divisional Police Officer of Gwoza division, although unaware of the incident, promised to verify the report and noted that a similar attack occurred in Kerawa, Cameroon, a few weeks ago, which may have caused confusion.
Gwoza was once declared the caliphate of the terrorists in 2014 before being recaptured by Nigerian troops.
