The popular Telegram game and engagement platform, Major, is set to launch its token, MAJOR, and initiate its highly anticipated airdrop on Thursday.
On-chain claims are now open for eligible players ahead of the token generation event, which is scheduled for 12:00 PM UTC.
Players who meet the eligibility criteria can connect a TON (The Open Network) wallet to claim their airdrop. Previously, Major allowed players to select centralized exchanges like OKX and Bitget, as well as the Wallet app on Telegram, for their airdrop claims. The new option enables players to use self-custody TON wallets for greater flexibility.
Token Details and Platform Growth
The MAJOR token, launching on TON, will have a total supply of 100 million tokens. The game, which debuted earlier this year, has already attracted over 30 million players, according to its developers. Players earn stars by engaging with games, networking, and completing other activities via the Telegram mini app.
The platform’s success follows a trend among Telegram mini apps offering token airdrops, such as Notcoin, Hamster Kombat, Catizen, and X Empire. These platforms have seen significant user engagement, though their respective tokens have experienced declines from their all-time high prices.
Plans for Sustained Engagement
To sustain player interest and foster a thriving community post-token launch, Major’s developers have announced plans to introduce a gaming hub. Additionally, players will have the ability to mint in-game achievements as NFTs, which could influence rankings in other games within the ecosystem.
Tribute to Pavel Durov
In a nod to Telegram’s impact, Major’s creators plan to airdrop 1% of the token supply (equivalent to 1 million MAJOR tokens) to Pavel Durov, Telegram’s co-founder and CEO. The developers praised Durov for creating an ecosystem that has allowed platforms like Major to flourish.
