The Supreme Court has delivered a unanimous judgment affirming the election of Siminalayi Fubara, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the Governor of Rivers State.
The court dismissed the appeal filed by Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging Fubara’s victory in the gubernatorial election.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday by a five-member panel of the court, led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, it was determined that the appeal by Cole and the APC lacked merit.
Justice Saulawa, in the lead judgment, stated that the appellants failed to present sufficient evidence to substantiate their case.
The court meticulously reviewed all four issues raised for determination in the appeal and ultimately resolved them against the appellants.
This decision solidifies Fubara’s position as the legitimate governor of Rivers State.
With this judgment, the legal battle over the Rivers State governorship election, which has been a subject of contention, has reached its conclusion.
