South Africa’s Kevin Anderson is a Grand Slam finalist for the first time after beating Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-3 on Friday at the US Open.
The 28th seed fought back to beat Busta and become his country’s first Grand Slam singles finalist in more than 30 years.
The 31-year-old will confront Spanish world number one Rafael Nadal or 24th seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in Sunday’s final.
“I don’t know if the team hug was appropriate after the semi-finals, but it felt like the right thing to do,” he said afterwards.
