Seplat Energy, a leading indigenous energy company in Nigeria, has been recognized by the Oil & Gas Trainers’ Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) for its exemplary National Human Capital Development (HCD) Scholarship Scheme.
The award was presented at OGTAN’s 2024 Annual HCD Awards ceremony, held in Lagos under the theme ‘Consolidating Human Capital Development Through Domestication of Skills’.
OGTAN commended Seplat Energy for its sustained efforts in building human capacity through its scholarship programmes, which have had a significant impact across Nigeria. The event was attended by key industry operators, regulators, academia, and media representatives.
Since its inception, OGTAN has played a crucial role in enhancing human capacity development within the oil, gas, and energy sectors. The association works closely with industry stakeholders to build local human capital capacity, following a 15-point mandate issued by the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in 2010. This mandate includes the supervision, standardization, and certification of training bodies, curricula, and training delivery methods in the industry.
The Seplat Energy National Undergraduate Scholarship, launched in 2014, aims to support indigent students in Federal and State universities, helping them achieve their educational goals.
The scholarship is available to students from their second year of study and above who meet specific criteria in selected courses. Successful applicants receive an annual grant until they graduate, provided they maintain a set cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
Dr. Afe Mayowa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for OGTAN, presented the Award for Outstanding National HCD Scholarship Scheme to Seplat Energy, highlighting the company’s leadership in human capital development.
“We are here to recognize excellence and reward the same. Seplat Energy is a trailblazer in this regard, and today’s award aims to encourage the company to continue its outstanding work,” Dr. Mayowa stated.
Representing Seplat Energy at the ceremony were Akinyemi Akinyoade, Senior Manager of Process, Planning & Performance Management, Supply Chain Management; Stanley Opara, Manager of Corporate Communications; and Simeon Ogari, Lead of Nigerian Content. In his response, Akinyoade expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed Seplat Energy’s commitment to nurturing talent and contributing to national development.
“Sustainability is embedded in our strategy and is the driving force behind our operations and investment decisions, our management and culture. We will continue to nurture talents from the school level until they are ready to join the workforce and contribute to national development,” Akinyoade added.
