Seplat Energy Plc, a leading Nigerian energy company, has announced the appointment of Ms. Koosum P.
Kalyan as an Independent Non-Executive Director. Ms. Kalyan, a renowned South African businesswoman and economist, will join the Seplat Board effective from today, 28th February 2023.
Ms. Kalyan’s career started at the Electricity Commission in Melbourne, Australia, where she worked as an economist before moving on to join Shell South Africa.
During her time at Shell, she was part of the global scenario planning team and worked on various projects in countries like Nigeria, Gabon, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
She helped governments in those countries transform their energy policies and join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. Ms. Kalyan also played a significant role in digitizing government institutions.
Over the years, Ms. Kalyan has served on the boards of several prestigious companies, where she has expertly contributed her wealth of knowledge to their progress. She was recently appointed the Chairperson of Control Risk for Southern Africa.
Ms. Kalyan holds a degree in B. Com Law and a degree in Economics from the University of Durban Westville.
She has also completed the Senior Executive Management Program at the London Business School and a Leadership Management Program at the Shell Leadership Institute.
