Match Details:
- Game: Nigeria vs Ivory Coast
- Date: Sunday, February 11

How they got here
Nigeria qualified for the final after a dramatic penalty shootout win over South Africa in the semi-finals. The Super Eagles had taken the lead through Ademola Lookman’s header in the 72nd minute, but were pegged back by Teboho Mokoena’s spot-kick in the 90th minute. However, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero for Nigeria, saving two penalties in the shootout to send his team to the final.
Ivory Coast, the hosts and co-favorites of the tournament, had a more straightforward path to the final, beating DR Congo 1-0 in the last four. The only goal of the game came from Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller, who scored his first of the tournament with a powerful header in the 34th minute. The Elephants then defended well to keep a clean sheet and book their place in the final.
Key players
Both teams have plenty of talent and experience in their squads, but some players stand out as potential match-winners. For Nigeria, the main threat is Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Footballer of the Year and Napoli’s star striker. Osimhen has only scored one goal at the tournament so far, but has been involved in many of Nigeria’s attacks and has the most shots on goal. He will be hoping to add to his tally and lead his team to glory.
For Ivory Coast, the key man is Franck Kessie, the AC Milan midfielder and the captain of the hosts. Kessie has been instrumental in Ivory Coast’s run to the final, scoring two goals and providing two assists, as well as dominating the midfield with his physicality and creativity. He will be looking to inspire his team and lift the trophy in front of the home fans.
