Manchester United has confirmed that forward Marcus Rashford will be sidelined for their upcoming FA Cup clash against Newport on Sunday due to illness.
Rashford’s absence from training on Friday raised concerns about his availability for the fixture, with the England international reportedly falling ill.
The news comes amid controversy surrounding Rashford’s recent appearances at nightclubs in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which circulated on social media.
Initially, United defended Rashford, stating that the footage was from Wednesday night, coinciding with a scheduled day off for the players on Thursday.
However, subsequent reports suggested that Rashford was also spotted at a nightclub in Belfast on Thursday night, raising questions about his adherence to club protocols.
In response to inquiries about Rashford’s availability, Manchester United released a statement confirming his absence from the squad for the Newport game.
“Marcus Rashford is not well enough to be in the squad for Newport following illness; he has stayed at Carrington to train as he recovers,” the statement read.
