Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday described late Umaru Shinkafi as a committed nationalist who worked tirelessly for the unity and development of the country.
Obasanjo spoke when he paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s family.
He said Shinkafi’s death, as well as that of Shattima Ali Monguno had robbed the country of honest voices which had a lot to offer the nation.
“Even though we cannot question the work of God, present leaders should emulate both Shinkafi and Monguno in their dealings with other Nigerians,’’ the former president said.
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal thanked Obasanjo for the visit and prayed God to reward him accordingly.
Obasanjo also visited Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad.
The Sultan commended Obasanjo for the visit and noted that Shinkafi lived a worthy life of service to his country.
Obasanjo also paid a visit to former President Shehu Shagari and prayed God to grant him good health.
