The Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is worried about the increase in divorce rates in the state.
He said yesterday that the state government would enact a law over the matter.
Ganduje spoke while meeting with some agencies, including Hisbah guards, vigilance groups, Vehicle Inspection Officers and civil society organisations at Coronation Hall, Kano Government House, yesterday.
The new governor gave a directive to the state Hisbah board to liase with Islamic scholars and other contemporary Islamic students with a view to advising government on how the law would be implemented from the Islamic perspective as well as who to implement it.
The governor, who described the rising cases of divorce in the state as worrisome, noted that government would take appropriate actions to stop the menace.
He appreciated the effort of Hisbah Guards towards institutionalising Islamic tenets in the state, assuring that his government would continue to support them to work effectively.
