Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique, has revealed why they thrashed Real Madrid 5-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday.
He said that Lionel Messi’s absence motivated them, adding that Barcelona are better than ever – despite being without their star player, Messi.
Goals from Luiz Suarez (3), Philippe Coutinho (1) and Arturo Vidal (1) ensured victory for the Catalan club at the Camp Nou.
“We scored five goals! These are moments to enjoy,” Pique told Sky Sports.
“It’s not easy to score five goals against your rival, so you have to enjoy it when it happens.
“I’m really happy. It’s an important result.
“The team’s better than ever and this week (wins against Sevilla, Inter Milan and Real) has given us a lot of confidence.
“We’ve been at a great level without even having our best player.
“When you don’t have the best player on the pitch, everyone has to take a step forward.
“The full-backs were really good. I hope (Spain boss) Luis Enrique rectifies his error and brings Jordi Alba back into the squad.”
