The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to begin the search for the new moon of Shawwal 1445 AH on Monday.
Issuing the directive on behalf of the Sultan, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, conveyed the message in a statement released on Sunday.
In the statement, Prof. Junaidu stated, “This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Monday 8th April, 2024, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Ramadan 1445AH, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH.
“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto.”
The sighting of the new moon on Monday would mark the end of the month-long Ramadan fast observed by Muslim faithful across the country.
