Lawmakers at Edo State House of Assembly on Monday impeached Deputy Speaker, Victor Edoror.
Edoror was replaced with Justin Okonobor, a former Speaker of the House.
Heavy shooting were earlier heard at the Assembly premises on Monday.
okay.ng gathered that the fracas at the Assembly Complex was caused when security operatives shot in the air to disperse angry supporters of the embattled member who allegedly attempted to stop the impeachment.
According to The Punch, the lawmaker, representing Oredo East, Osaigbovo Iyoha, said that the impeachment notice was signed by 16 members, out of the 24 lawmakers in the House.
Edoror, representing Esan Central constituency, was accused by the lawmakers of corruption, high-handedness, and desperation.
It was learnt that the impeachment may not be unconnected with an alleged plot by some All Progressives Congress members from the Edo Central senatorial district to remove the Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto, who hails from Edo North.
