Champions League Draw: New ‘Swiss-Style’ League Phase Fixtures Announced

The draw for the new Champions League league phase has been conducted, marking a significant shift in the competition’s format.

This year, the tournament will adopt a ‘Swiss-style’ league phase, replacing the traditional group stage format that fans have become accustomed to over the years.

In another change, 36 teams will now participate in the league phase, an increase from the usual 32.

The league phase is set to conclude at the end of January, a departure from the typical December finish. Following the league phase, the top eight teams will automatically qualify for the knockout stages.

Teams finishing between ninth and 24th place will enter a two-legged play-off to secure a place in the last 16 of the competition. Teams ranked from 25th to 36th will be eliminated from all European competitions for the season.
