President Muhammadu Buhari says the death of the late Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Kabir Umar, means the country has ‘lost a pillar and a role model’.
The president’s message was delivered on Sunday at the burial of the late monarch in Bauchi state.
He was represented by government delegation led by Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff.
Buhari described the royal father as humble, and one who lived an exemplary life.
“The traditional institution has lost a pillar and a role model,” Buhari said. “The nation has lost a far-sighted leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of his people.”
The president prayed God to grant Bauchi people, friends and family the strength to bear the loss.
The late monarch died at the age of 89 on Saturday after a protracted illness. He was survived by 49 children.
