The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have each been offered N500 million by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative for Africa (ASR Africa).
This grant is being provided as part of ASR Africa’s social development programme, which focuses on the thematic areas of health, education, and social development.
According to statements released by both agencies, the grant is being provided in recognition of their successes, both nationally and internationally.
The NIS national spokesman, DCI Tony Akuneme, stated that the comptroller-general of Immigration, Isah Idris, received the award letter at a ceremony held at the NIS headquarters in Abuja, and commended the chairman of BUA Group, Alh Abdul Samad Rabiu, for the initiative and for acknowledging the efforts of the service.
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria and global security, and assured ASR Africa that the grant would be used effectively.
Similarly, the controller-general of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, received a N500 million cheque at the NCoS national headquarters in Abuja, presented by the managing director and CEO of ASR Africa, Dr Ubong Udo.
Dr Udo explained that ASR Africa was established as a way to drive the mission of Abdul Samad Rabiu for Nigeria and Africa, and to create a platform where Nigerians and Africans can take responsibility for addressing their own developmental issues by looking inward.
The NCoS plans to use the grant as an intervention to improve the security of custodial centers by adding another layer of technological surveillance that will enhance the remote monitoring frameworks.
The grant will also provide the NCoS with the necessary equipment to ensure that security solutions cover a wider range of custodial centers and reduce the chances of future attacks.
Additionally, the grant will be used for capacity building, allowing for more personnel to be trained on how to effectively utilize IT solutions in driving the service forward and boosting the morale of staff.
The NCoS expressed its gratitude for the grant, and promised to use it judiciously to improve the security and effectiveness of the agency.
Both the NCoS and NIS have demonstrated a strong commitment to their respective missions and to serving the people of Nigeria, and the grant from ASR Africa will provide them with the necessary resources to continue their important work.
The grant is a testament to the successes of both agencies and a recognition of their efforts to improve the lives of those they serve.
