Arsenal Football Club has announced the appointment of Andrea Berta as their new Sporting Director, marking a significant strategic move for the club, okay.ng reports.

Berta arrives at Arsenal following an impressive 12-year tenure at Atlético Madrid, where his expertise in squad building and recruitment played a crucial role in the club’s success, including two La Liga titles, a Europa League victory, and two UEFA Champions League final appearances.

His ability to construct resilient and competitive teams under Diego Simeone has been widely recognized. Berta’s arrival comes after the departure of Edu Gaspar in November 2024, and he has expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge, praising Arsenal’s recent evolution and ambition to become a major force in European football.

This appointment aligns with Arsenal’s goal to strengthen their footballing structure under manager Mikel Arteta, as they aim to build on their return to the UEFA Champions League and compete for top honors in the Premier League. Co-Chair Josh Kroenke highlighted Berta’s impressive track record and vast knowledge of the game, emphasizing his ability to build winning teams.

Before his success at Atlético Madrid, Berta held technical roles at Italian clubs, where he gained a reputation for smart squad-building and strategic recruitment. His experience is expected to bring a structured approach to Arsenal’s player recruitment, contract negotiations, and overall sporting strategy, as the club aims to return to its former glory. Berta’s first major task will be shaping the club’s summer transfer strategy ahead of the 2025/26 season.
