A magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti has granted bail to Dele Farotimi, a prominent human rights activist, in the sum of N30 million.
The ruling was delivered on Friday by Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun.
The bail comes with strict conditions, including the provision of two sureties, who must be responsible members of the society.
Additionally, the court ordered Farotimi to surrender his international passport and refrain from granting media interviews for the duration of the case.
Farotimi is facing allegations of “criminal defamation” brought against him by the police. The charges stem from claims made in his book, titled ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’, where the activist allegedly defamed Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
