The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Dr. Aniekan Peter, showed the media reports that the association was involved in a new crisis, describing it as misleading.
The disgruntled members of the association are said to have circulated an internal audit report, raising the tension for the eruption of a new crisis in the association over the alleged misappropriation of funds by the former executive board led by Professor Emem Abraham.
Speaking to newsmen in Uyo, the state capital, after a leadership retreat on Saturday, Peter said the former president was never accused of any financial crime in the association.
“As president of NMA AKS, together with my presidency sitting here, I want to deny that this report is fraudulent and did not originate from NMA AKS.”
Peter said: “The audit report presented by the internal auditors to the Annual General Assembly was not approved or discussed by the Congress because there are inconsistencies and the document was not signed by the secretary of the committee.
“Based on these observations, the congress, through a well-presented motion supported by the former presidents of the association, decided to send impartial external auditors to audit the accounts of the association.
“We are still waiting for the documents from the chairman of the audit committee to be sent to the external auditors as approved by the congress, adding that at no time Professor Emem Abraham, the former chairman, has been accused of crimes finances in the association.
The president, however, promised that the result of the external audit report will be implemented to the letter, declaring: “Always for what is right. Whatever the result of the external auditors, it will be discussed in congress and it will be published; it will not be hidden and whoever is involved will be punished.”
He asked the public to ignore any post on the NMA by people whose intention is to discredit the image and noble traditions of the association.
